The myth of it never rains in Suffolk on the first weekend in July was well and truly busted in 2024. No such worries this year 48 hours before the next instalment of the UK's longest running and most sustainable Americana festival as it's all pointing to plenty of warm sunshine on those reliable apps.

With a mantra of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', once again four scheduled stages, and a pop up fifth, will buzz with a plethora of sounds right across the roots spectrum. Expect some vibrant rock, cool strings and varied vocals both soothing the soul and raising the roof. Of course, there is always plenty of grit, groove and earthy vibes. 

From 5 o'clock Friday teatime to around three on Sunday afternoon, forty artists, all worth their place on the bill, will bring this boutique festival to life. Maverick alumni mingle with new discoveries as both sides of the pond are healthily represented. Multiple appearances from select acts across the weekend eases the obvious clashes and the compact nature of Easton Park Farm allows you to freely roam and sample as conveniently as taking in full sets. 

The spirit of 2008 is alive and kicking as the 2026 event approaches. Buy into the mission of Maverick, share its ideals, and the riches of this iconic event will lavishly smother you. Small is beautiful, even better when the quality soars to new heights. Precedence of many successful stagings is the best indicator of a music festival welcoming to newcomers and forever rewarding those who can't get enough of this annual fix.

Festival Review: The Long Road - Stanford Hall, Leicestershire. Friday 22nd August to Sunday 24th August 2025

  The sixth staging of The Long Road Festival had an instant different feel to the previous five. Firstly, the main stage known as the Rhinestone was expanded to host acts on the Friday evening, a timely move to align with other events of a similar size. Secondly, the whole lifestyle aspect seemed on another level with an apparent expansion of live-in vehicles leading to a re-organisation of the parking situation for day visitors. Thirdly, there was a pre-festival consensus that the Americana music offering was considerably lighter than the immense levels of previous years. The last point is purely subjective and within the boundaries of the beholder.
